BATTLEFLEET 1900
PRE-DREADNOUGHT NAVAL WARFARE: 1890-1905

Battlefleet
Randomizer

The following chart allows players to randomly locate a damaged beam-pattern position using a 12 sided die. The left column indicates the original number of gun positions present on the embattled side of the ship (this includes damaged and destroyed guns), subdivided according the the pattern upon which those positions are based. Along the top is shown the relative location on the ship which the hit will occur based on the 12 sided die rolls in the middle field. See the example below.

Position
Number of guns Pattern Class Forward Amidships Aft
2 1 1-6 - 7-12
3 1 1-4 5-8 9-12
4 2 1-6 - 7-12
1 1-3 4-9 10-12
5 2 1-5 6,7 8-12
1 1,2 3-10 11,12
6 2 1-4 5-8 9-12
1 1,2 3-10 11,12
7 2 1-3 4-9 10-12
1 1,2 3-10 11,12
8 or 9 2 1-3 4-9 10-12
1 1 2-11 12
10,11 2 1,2 3-10 11,12
1 1 2-11 12
12,13 or 14 2 1,2 3-10 11,12
1 1 2-11 12

Example: The Japanese cruiser Idzumo has a total of 14 six-inch secondary guns arranged in beam pattern two. This means she has two guns each, located in sponsons both fore and aft, on both sides of the ship as well as three more guns on each side amidships, for a total of 14 one-gun positions. If Idzumo suffers three hits, she will roll three dice on the 7-2 line. Seven for the number of guns on the embattled side, subdivided to the Pattern Class 2 line. If her captain rolls two "fives" and a "ten" on the dice, she will suffer hits on two of her amidships guns, and one of her aft sponson guns. If two "threes" and a "one" were rolled, then only the two guns in the forward sponson would suffer hits, one of them suffering two hits (it doesn't matter which one at this point, although players may want to roll for the specific gun in consideration of future hits and repairs).
